The role holder will provide assessments of external developments related to
public policy and regulation to support senior staff in the MENAT region in
their political engagement. The role holder will coordinate the bank's MENAT
political engagement, ensuring it is consistent with and complements that of
the Group's other external-facing teams and strategic priorities. The role
holder will also be required proactively to provide focused, forward-looking
and business-relevant MENAT geopolitical risk assessment and advice to senior
management, both in MENAT and London. This will be predominantly written, but,
when required, oral briefings will also be delivered to senior management. The
role holder will coordinate closely with both Group and regional strategy and
risk teams to ensure political risk guidance is systematically incorporated
into Group/regional strategy, market risk and pol/sec threat assessments. The
role holder must provide close analytic support to relevant country CEOs and
CROs during contingencies and periods of national crisis.
Key responsibilities
* Coordinates public policy and regulation-related engagement within MENAT and is seen as a leading point of contact on political engagement issues.
* Supports the creation and delivery of a MENAT-wide political engagement strategy that complements and is consistent with other external facing objectives, Group Public Affairs and Group's strategic priorities.
* Proactively identifies relevant public policy and political developments.
* Helps ensure the MENAT leadership team has timely information on emerging issues and their potential impact on the bank.
* Identifies and implements specific political engagement activities which the bank should undertake and ensures the bank is positioned to share knowledge and technical expertise to help develop practical solutions which meet their policy objectives.
* Enhances the reputation of HSBC among political stakeholders through timely and relevant engagement on issues of mutual interest.
* Proactively provides focused, forward-looking and business-relevant MENAT political risk advice to senior management, both in MENAT and London.
* Provides analysis of MENAT geopolitical developments and trends and forecasts changes in the MENAT political and stability environment, identifying possible impacts on HSBC, and alert relevant stakeholders accordingly.
* Provides input to RMM risk management meetings and committees on MENAT political and stability is Adherence to operational controls as outlined in procedures and policies to ensure risks are identified and managed
* Contribution to processes for building Management Information (MI)
* MENAT-specific social and political knowledge
* Fluent in written and spoken English and Arabic.

Requirements
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
Experience & Qualifications
* Graduate Degree in a relevant field is a must
* Outstanding analytical (qualitative), investigative and problem-solving skills
* Fluent English. Excellent written and oral communications skills in English with meticulous attention to detail.
* Demonstrable interest and experience in analyzing MENAT current affairs and political issues
* Significant public affairs experience, with knowledge of the banking sector preferable
* Resourceful, creative and inquisitive approach to highly complex tasks
* The ability to undertake comparative assessments of multiple competing hypotheses
* Ability to highlight problems but more importantly offer solutions and drive forward their execution in accordance with HSBC's values
* Strong team player with demonstrated capacity for leadership
* Highly motivated, entrepreneurial and autonomous
* Evidence of ability to work unsupervised, where necessary
* (Desirable) Arabic language skills
* (Desirable) Experience/knowledge of wholesale banking
* (Desirable) Experience of intelligence analytics/investigations
