The UN Secretary-General launched a bold and new global reform which
repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and
efficiently with the achievement of the ‎2030 Agenda and the Sustainable
Development Goals. As part of this reform, UN Resident Coordinator Offices (UN
RCO), under the leadership of an empowered and independent UN Resident
Coordinator - the highest-ranking official of the UN Development System and
Representative of the UN Secretary-General at country level - support
countries in the achievement of their development priorities and the
attainment of the SDGs.


The intern will be based in UAE and work remotely and report to the Resident
Coordinator's Office in UAE in Abu Dhabi when needed, and will report to the
Communications Officer.
The purpose of this internship is to find a creative, innovative, motivated
events and social media intern for three months, extendable up to six months.
The qualified candidate will support UN UAE's efforts to engage with youth,
partners and the public audience in meaningful conversations, and to design
and launch different outreach campaigns. This internship will provide the
successful candidate an exposure to the working environment of a multilateral
organization and a better understanding of UN's mandate to safeguard the
rights of everyone, everywhere.


Under the guidance and supervision of the Communications and Advocacy Officer
of the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the Events and Social Media Intern
provides support to office events management and social media accounts.


Interns work five days per week (‎35 hours) under the supervision of a staff
member in the department or office to which they are assigned.


Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and
arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the
responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. The United Nations
accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs
arising from injury, illness or death that may occur during an internship.
Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical insurance coverage
to cover the full period of the internship at the duty station and provide a
medical certificate of good health prior to the commencement of the
internship. The United Nations accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to
personal effects that may occur during the internship. Interns work five days
per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office
to which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the
intern's assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include,
but are not limited to:



  • Support during events with on ground advocacy campaigns on the work of the UN UAE and the Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Assist in taking photos and videos for media coverage and archiving. i.e using the RCO video camera as needed, to take photographs and film short interviews during the planned events.

  • Plan engaging digital campaigns and design relevant content to be used for social media and website.

  • Support in providing quality and timely communication plans and multimedia content such as: photographs, infographics, visuals, reels, videos, for UN in UAE social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube.

  • Prepare captions and schedule posts in Arabic and English in consultation with the Communications Officer, and in line with the UN International Days and thematic priorities of the UN UAE.

  • Work with youth and key partners to amplify UN in UAE campaigns (particularly on climate action and ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP28).

  • Contribute to the strategy, vision, and voice of the channels.

  • Assist the Communications officer with additional tasks as required.


Expected results (measurable results)
Under the supervision of the RCO Communications Officer, the intern will:



  • Develop monthly social media calendar and content plan.

  • Support the design and implementation of targeted campaigns for social media.

  • Assist the team on ground with outreach activities and social media coverage during events.

  • Map a list of youth and relevant social media activists in UAE/ thematic areas for the UN UAE to engage especially on climate action and in the lead to COP28 in UAE.

approaches.
Education
Academic Qualifications


To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the
following conditions must be met:
‎1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or
equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree
programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above)


‎2. Applicants must:
(a) be computer literate in standard software applications;
(b) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and
have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter; and
(c) have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of
different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try
and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship
Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should
benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations
Secretariat.


For this position, fluency in English is required; and fluency in Arabic is
desirable.


Note: "Fluency" equals a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (speak, read,
write, and understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of 'confident' in
two of the four areas.

United Nations Considerations
According to article ‎101, paragraph ‎3, of the Charter of the United Nations,
the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of
securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity.
